Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure

We had our work 'End of Summer Party' this week. End? What?! Summer can't be over yet, I'm not ready!! I figured that there has been a significant lack of summer or festival themed nails on the blog this year, so I should mark the 'end' of the season with something bright and fun. We just got our hands on this summer's new Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Superdrug exclusive shades - perfect!

Barry M and Boots Limited Edition Golden Sands

Now I finally feel like I have a grip on the wedding logistics I've finally got around to thinking about my beauty regime - a little late but oh well! What I really need to decide is what to do with my nails. As a nail blogger everyone has been asking me, and most people want to know if I'll be wearing nail art. I'm sorry to say that I won't be, although I secretly love the idea I don't want to look back on the photos in years to come and have any regrets.

Sally Hansen Royal Spendlor Miracle Gel

I know I say it every time I post but we're so sorry we have been absent for the past few months. I have been completely wrapped up in wedding preparations but as there's only 3 weeks (eek!!) to go now I'm starting to see the light at the tunnel and am itching to get back into blogging. My nails are in awful shape after being neglected for so long so please be patient with me whilst I get them back up to standard!

We were very excited to be welcomed into the Sally Hansen Insider Group recently, not just because they sent us flip flops with a cat face on!! Mainly because it gave us the perfect excuse to pull our finger out and get back into blogging.

Easy Matte Pink Gem Nails with Pretty Up Front

Although we've not been posting very frequently this year, it doesn't mean we've stopped doing nail art. We've been busy working with Pretty Upfront on a new video for you which they posted a few weeks ago. A bit slow to get round to sharing it with you all here - oops!!

This video tutorial is super quick and simple but the design is a stunner. Soft matte pink nails with a cute gem designed inspired by the always gorgeous Rihanna! We love this look, and it's perfect for wedding season.

Take a look and let us know what you think...

Florals for a French Wedding

Recently we received a gorgeous package of new summer gel polishes from Red Carpet Manicure. Their 'Escape to Paradise' collection is the perfect mix of brights, neons and pastels for your holidays! I already tried out Until the Sun-Sets* for my holiday to Portugal a few weeks ago. It's an absolutely stunning neon coral and was perfect! I have awful thin bendy nails so it did start to peel a little for me, but lasted a good 7-10 days before I couldn't resist peeling it off (naughty!) My Mum went for Frolic in the Sand* and hers lasted ages so that goes to show the benefits of looking after your nails!

Easy Pastel Ombre Nail Tutorial with Pretty Up Front

It seems like the only time we post anything these days is when one of our YouTube friends releases a new nail tutorial video. Thankfully they keep asking us back to do them! Today we have an easy pastel ombre nail tutorial that we recorded with Pretty Up Front - check out their channel here

This design is super cute for summer and a great way to mix up a couple of your favourite pastels. We know how hard it is to choose just one! All you need is a few different polishes and a piece of sponge. This could be the corner of a washing up sponge, or one from your makeup bag, anything will work! The best thing about this one is how easy it is to do with your non-dominant hand so you'll have a lovely symmetrical mani!

To see all the steps have a look at the video below...

Will you be rocking pastel nails this summer?

We've teamed up with the fab peeps over at ICON UK again today to bring you another video tutorial. This time we've gone full festival with a super cute Gigi Hadid-inspired mix and match mani. Palm trees, luscious lips, the whole shebang!

This look was so much fun to recreate, it feels like forever since we did a full on mix and match so it was really refreshing. Fun and funky nails are just perfect for festival season, when else can you get away with it really?! Check out the video below for all the steps...

Are you off to a festival this summer? What do you have planned for your nails?!

Coconut Infusions Floral Aztec

I can't work our why these photos came out with such a pink hue and it's really bugging me, so first off, sorry about that! This mani is very similar to one I created last summer but I absolutely loved it so decided to have another go. I think I still prefer my first attempt as I the colour mix was better but this design is so cute for summer! Ironically it's pissing it down with rain as I write this...

Quite a while ago now (wrist slap for us!) we received an exciting package of goodies from the lovely Leah Bell at Jamberry. We've never tried wraps before so I was very intrigued to test them out and this week I finally got my chance!

Barry M Coconut Infusion Nail Paint

We are incredibly behind on our blogging at the moment. So much so that I now have a box of samples that need to be tested and reviewed - usually I can't wait to break into packages! Clearly going back to commuting to an office every day and planning a wedding have been seriously eating into my nail time. Not good! Anyway, a little behind the curve, but today we have Barry M's latest collection - Coconut Infusion...

Itsy Nails London

A significant while ago we received a package of gorgeous polishes from the lovely folk over at Itsy Nails London. Itsy Nails' DuraPro Gel effect formula creates 'an ultra shiny, glossy, gel effect finish'. This normal polish claims to provide the look of a gel mani without all the curing and soaking off hassle. #TealTips With Barry M & Ovacome

#tealtips
About a month ago we were contacted by Barry M to let us know that March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. The reason Barry M were the ones telling us about it is that they're teaming up with Ovacome to run their annual #tealtips campaign again this year. The idea is that by wearing Gelly Nail Paint in Greenberry, we’ll get women and girls like you talking about the Ovarian cancer symptoms you should be looking out for. Throughout the whole of March they’re also donating 50% of proceeds of each £3.99 purchase (from barrym.com only) to Ovacome!

Evil Eye

I'm not sure why this design idea popped into my head. I think Emma has done an evil eye design in the past, and this could be an exact replica, but I just got a feeling so went with it! We could all use a little extra help warding off bad spirits so why not adorn our nails hey?

Coralicious

Whilst having a rummage through the Helmer I found a polish that I wasn't sure I'd used before, or at least not for a long while. Coralicious* by Rimmel London just sort of called out to me, partly because of the awesome name but mostly because of it's glowing colour. Frustratingly the camera doesn't quite pick up the vibrance of this polish as it catches the light so you'll just have to take my word for it.

Barry M Spring Gelly Swatches

CREAM SODA
Today we've got the last of our Barry M swatching trilogy, it's the Gelly's turn! First up is one I can see us using a lot, Cream Soda*. It reminds me a lot of Coconut which I think is why I love it so much. White polish is a perfect base for nail art but it can look a bit stark, off white or cream can be even better. Imagine this soft off white shade with a beautiful floral pattern over it. Heavenly summer nails are on their way ladies (and gents)! This polish has better colour density than I was expecting and this is just two coats.

PINK LEMONADE
Soft shades are highly prevalent in Barry M's Spring releases and the Gelly's are no different. This one is Pink Lemonade*, a beautiful soft pale pink. It's pretty and girly but not babyish so you don't end up with Barbie nails! The perfect accompaniment to your best summer dress, or even the first step away from the winter darks - beautiful with an all black outfit too! The formula is the usual reliable Gelly base, and this is just two coats again.

BUTTERSCOTCH SUNDAE
Butterscotch Sundae* is another pale beauty, but this one had a nude tinge to it. I can't decide if it has a hint of yellow or very subtle peach, or something in between. Anyway, I predict Emma will love this one with her paler skin, but with the dark skin around my nails it just doesn't look right on me. The polish is lovely and I do like the colour but I just don't think it suits me as I tend to lean towards a browner nude.

ACAI SMOOTHIE
Last up is Acai Smoothie, the only stand out colour from the bunch. This one has a much stronger colour so doesn't really match the others but it was quite nice to see something a little different. The shade is still soft so lovely for Spring but I do feel that we've seen similar Barry M's in the past, including Fondant* in the last Spring release. It's pretty and I'll definitely be wearing it but it doesn't scream out to me for some reason.

All these are available now online or in Boots and Superdrug stores across the UK. They cost £3.99 each but keep an eye out for those 3 for 2 deals!

Which ones have made it onto your wishlist? Cream Soda* is defo my fave!

Empire State of Mind

Spring 16 Sunset Nail Paint

Ready for round two of the Spring Barry M swatches? Good, today we have the four new Sunset Nail Paints! This batch is completely different to the Speedies as all four are bright and fun and make us long for summer.

EMPIRE STATE OF MIND
I've got to start with my favourite from the bunch, Empire State of Mind*. I know Barry M have a ton of mint polishes already but this does differ to all those already in my collection, I promise. As far as I'm concerned you can't beat a good mint shade, so much so it's part of my wedding colour scheme. Maybe that's why I'm such a fan of this polish! The formula is stunning, silky smooth and gorgeously shiny.

PINKING OUT LOUD
Next up is Pinking Out Loud*, after all the pinks and neutrals in the new Speedy release you'd think we'd have enough of them but this is lovely. It's completely different, although still a soft shade it's right at the upper limit of a pastel, verging on a bright polish. It's found that perfect space between full on bright summer nails and playing it safe pastels. I'll definitely be rocking this when the sun finally comes out!

BUG A BLUE
I surprised myself by finding Bug A Blue* my second favourite out of these four polishes. The colour density is stunning and the polish is just so vibrant. It's not a subtle shade in any way but there is still a slight softness to it, as with Pinking Out Loud* it's a perfect mix of bright and pastel. I'm just itching to get this polish into some nail art, maybe something floral or a clean white aztec pattern?

ALL THE THINGS SHE RED
The name of this polish, All The Things She Red*, throws me off a little. It's not really a red but more of an orange or coral shade. Unfortunately it's one of those that doesn't come out quite as vibrant on camera, especially when you're battling with the British weather and imminent rain! This is the only one of the four that doesn't have any touch of pastel to it. It's a full on summer bright and will be perfect for those early festivals!

All these polishes are available now online and in Boots and Superdrug stores nationwide. They cost £4.99 each but do look out for some cheeky deals!

Don't forget to pick up a bottle of Daylight Curing topcoat* for extra shine and staying power!

Midweek Models Own Florals

I was super excited last week to discover that one of my fave nail art bloggers The Polish List was back from her blogging break with new nail art, yay!! I immediately had a scout through her insta page and was inspired by a cute cherry blossom design. By the time the original had made it onto my nails it had changed a fair bit, and I seem to have lost the cherry blossom vibe altogether!

Spring 16 Speedy Nail Paints

Last week we received an epic package from Barry M full of their Spring 16 releases. The goodies included some gorgeous make up but more excitingly twelve new nail varnishes! There were four polishes from three different collections so I've broken up the swatches accordingly and we'll be posting them over the next week or so. Fist up we've got the new additions to the Speedy Nail Paint collection. This was a firm favourite last year so we've got high hopes!

Amore at the Grand Canal

I was having a rummage through the Helmer last night when I came across and OPI that I don't think I've ever used. I couldn't bear the idea of unused nail polish just sitting there so I immediately set to work! Quite aptly, in Valentine's week, the polish is called Amore at the Grand Canal <3

Half & Half

This week I have had to resort to wearing gel polish in an attempt to stop my nails breaking. I chose Prim& Proper* by Red Carpet Manicure. It looks quite purple from the bottle but once it was on it was more of a dark dove grey, reminiscent of Barry M's old Cappuccino shade. I can't believe it's taken me this long to find this gem, I love it! As I didn't want to remove the gels I decided to add some nail art on top of it today.
This weekend we received an epic package from Barry M of all their spring shades and I can safely tell you that we love them all (unsurprisingly!) I am particularly enamored by the various pale pink and nude shades and expect you will be seeing a lot of them over the coming weeks and months. For today's simple design I picked out the one which complemented the base colour best, In A Flash* from the Speedy collection. It's a really pale baby pink which would be lovely on it's own, or teamed with another dusty pastel, I can see it cropping up as a base for some floral manis soon!

I decided to attempt this mani freehand which in hindsight was a bad idea as it's pretty wonky! I used a striping brush to paint a line across each nail. I then filled in the lower half of the line with polish. As the base was dark I needed two coats of In A Flash*. I was planning to leave it like that but as I hadn't used tape the edges weren't very neat. To tidy it up I added a white line to separate the two halves of the nail.
I'm a bit annoyed at myself with this one as I love how the colours work together and this could have been a gorgeous mani. Doing it freehand means it quite untidy and I think that anything this simple needs to be super crisp. My nails being all oddly shaped and different lengths right now doesn't help matters!

We'll get the new Barry M's swatched asap for you, just as soon as I have some nails to swatch them on and some daylight to photograph them!

Jo x

Emma put together a beautiful floral mani recently which inspired me to get my floral on too. Monochrome & Mustard

monochrome nail art
Happy Saturday everyone!! This week has been nuts as I was out in Amsterdam with work for two days, so again, sorry we've been a bit low on posts. Emma is in Mexico for 10 days so it will just be me for a little while again, please bear with me. If you have any design ideas or things you've been wanting us to try please email us to let me know, any inspiration will be well received and appreciated!

I was doing a bit of Instagram browsing this morning, looking for some inspiration. A post from @nananailsx caught my eye. Anna had posted a photo of a mani half way through creation, the finished article was gorgeous but I was particularly in love with the unfinished version. As you have probably guessed I love a monochrome mani with a splash of colour, especially during winter. I decided to create my own version of Anna's design.

Parma Flowers

I seem to be in a bit of a floral mood at the moment. I must be getting geared up for spring! For this design I chose to pull out one of my all time favourite shades: Topshop's Parma Violet. I love the colour for all year and I love the pairing with the rose gold from Models Own. I used this combo once before for this design and am a little bit obsessed.

You Had Me At Hello

I have horrendous nails at the moment. I'm putting it down to the cold weather, back to work, and being a bit run down. But if I'm really honest it's probably because I kept peeling off my gel mani's before Christmas. Seriously people, when you're told not to do that there's a reason - don't do it! My nails are like paper and just falling apart. So apologies for the stubby and uneven nails in this design, I've been trying to wait for them to grow back but that doesn't seem to be happening!

Back to Basics: Vintage Florals

Argh I'm so annoyed at how bad a blogger I am being this year. If you've seen that quote going around about 2016 starting again on 1st Feb this is how I feel about life right now. although I really need this year to begin again in March. Really can't get my head into anything at the moment! Taking the time to do my nails though is so therapeutic so I need to remember to step back from the craziness that is life to do the things I love. This classic style design got me right back in the mood, I do love a vintage-style floral!

Black White & Mint

Oops, forgot to post these over the weekend, sorry for the sporadic posting recently! This is a simple design that I've been meaning to try out for absolutely ages. It's directly inspired (ok, I totally stole it) by Alice at One Nail To Rule Them All. I thought about doing it for one of our mani swaps but there were so many to choose from it never made the top spot. I'm glad I got round to it as it was so quick and simple and I'm in love with the final look.

Pow Accent

For the first time in a long time at the weekend I had a day of just being inspired and creating nail designs. I have had a bit of a hiatus in here and poor Jo has had to keep things afloat while I've been drowning in work so it was really nice to just browse through Pinterest and Instagram to get inspired. The idea behind this design came from a print I found on Pinterest. I loved the contrast of the monochrome and the bright green. Unfortunately I was logged in to my other account and didn't like the pic so I am having trouble refinding it but if I do I shall post the link for y'all.

Stars In Our Eyes

galaxy nailart
I'm not sure why but I just had the urge for a galaxy mani today. It's one that we churn out every so often but are always fun to do, and no two are ever the same. Emma seems to manage to make hers look really individual each time where mine end up a bit samey whatever colours I use, not sure how that works?! I was intending to make this one stand out by doing something a bit different, like bringing some negative space into it, or adding a drippy outline, but once I'd done the base I liked them too much to mess with!

Always

slytherin nail art
We grew up firmly in the Harry Potter generation so last week's news of Alan Rickman's passing hit us hard in the feels. I remember being read the first chapter of The Philosopher's Stone sitting on the in a year 6 classroom, aged about 10, and the books came with me all the way through my school years. I was a particular fan of Alan Rickman as we actually attended the same school. One year while I was there he even took part in the school play, he played the part of the ghost of Christmas future in A Christmas Carol, performing via pre-recorded video clips!

January Aztec

I love a good Aztec design but it can sometimes be difficult to think of ways to incorporate the look in winter as I think it suits summer shades a lot better. However, we have done wintery Aztecs before and are not quick to be dissuaded so decided to give it another go. I'm still not convinced that this look actually suits this time of year but I did enjoy having a little Aztec back on my nails!

You Can Stand Under My...

We are having such miserable weather in London right now, I can't take it. My biggest problem is that I hate umbrellas so every time I leave the house I end up absolutely soaked. I've only had one umbrella that I truly loved which was a ladybird one which I stupidly left in Topshop on my last day working there. God I loved that umbrella! Now I just brave the elements and go for it so in homage to my 'oneness' with the rain I thought I'd do a little weather themed mani.

There is so much going on this year that I know it's going to fly by, but that makes my to-do list seem very intimidating. Prepare to be Bedazzled

It's just a short post for you today I'm afraid. I've gone back to work after a nearly a month on gardening leave and I'm absolutely shattered! By the time I get home each evening all I can face is cooking dinner and collapsing. I'm sure I'll get used to commuting again pretty soon and will have a bit more energy to be more creative in my designs. I'm already looking forward to summer so I can take daylight shots midweek. It's dark when I leave and dark when I get home at the moment, how depressing, I feel like I haven't seen the sun all week!

Feliz año nuevo

south american nailart
This year for NYE my friends hosted a dinner party. Not being ones to do anything by halves this included a theme, five courses, full decorations and entertainment! The theme was loosely South American and a nod to the theme was expected in our attire. Obviously I decided to decorate my nails accordingly! Now we sometimes get 'told off' online for appropriating culture by using these styles, so in the interest of full disclosure I googled 'South American patterns' and based this design loosely on the image results.
