A quick and simple design for you today as I've managed to damage a finger on my right hand playing netball and couldn't face anything more complicated. A few of my team have broken fingers recently so I'm very glad to get away with just a bit of bruising and a fat knuckle!

As all the autumn winter nail collections are being released I've been dragged kicking and screaming into the new season. It's finally time to say goodbye to summer. I do love bright nails but I also love a good grey polish, which is perfect for this time of year!

This week I went along to Barry M's AW 15 launch party. I feel lucky to live in London as I could just pop along after work, some people had to travel hundreds of miles! Usually these type of events are held in swanky locations, Barry M however, like to do things a little differently. The Speedy launch earlier this year was held at a trendy bowling alley and this week's event was at The London Bridge Experience which is basically a series of tunnels and dungeon type rooms under London! I'm terrified of people in costume and most things horror related so was not looking forward to attending alone (Emma's still in Cyprus, lucky git!) Luckily I found Allie from Brit Nails outside so had someone's hand to hold if things got real - thankfully for Allie is didn't come to that!

It was a rainy miserable weekday when I sat down to create today's mani, so naturally I went for two of the brightest colours I could find. I know Emma is a big fan of autumn but I can't help feeling a little sad when summer draws to an end and the days start getting shorter. At least I've got a little bit of sunshine on my nails!

Splatter nails have beaten me many a time in the past so I'm not sure what inspired me to give them another go, especially as I created this mani in a bit of a rush! I was fulled expecting it to turn out awfully with a horrendous clean up. I was pleasantly surprised.

Today's floral design is created with all Rimmel London polishes and was inspired by a mani I found on google by @manicurity. It's a simple half nail of roses but with some added dots and glitter. Unfortunately I added a few too many flowers so you can't see many of the dots, oops!

Firstly, I'm sorry for the repost today, ok, I'm not sorry - it's RUGBY DAY! The day I've been waiting for for the last four years has finally arrived and I'm SO excited! So England have got a really tough group, so we've not had the best run into the tournament, so what it's still great. England take on Fiji in the opening match tonight and I hope you'll all get involved and support your favourite team. It's not often we get to host a world cup in any sport so let's make the most of it!

We were honoured when we were asked to be part of Save The Rhino's #NailIt4Rhinos campaign recently. Rhinos are being poached and killed for their horns which are made of keratin, the same thing our nails are made from. As it's World Rhino Day on 22nd September the charity are encouraging people like us (and you!) to get creative with your nails to show your support!

Today is Dahlia Nails' two year anniversary, we can't believe how quickly this time has gone, it's absolutely flown by! It's incredible to look back and see how far we have come, recreating some of our early designs has been really fun. We're always shocked to see how much they change! This year has had many highlights including a complete face lift, working with new brands and publications and finally reaching the 10,000 mark on Instagram (wow!) It's been so much fun to keep creating new designs and searching for interesting inspiration and ideas. We hope you've shared our enjoyment over the past year, we're immensely grateful for your support.
To celebrate the day we're sharing our favourite posts from throughout the past year. We'd love to know which ones were your favourites too! You can check out what we got up to the previous year (and laugh at our awful designs) in last years blogiversary post here.
This Zoella Beauty inspired critter absolutely smashed it on Instagram last year. With over 700 likes we're pretty sure it's our highest ranked IG post so far. We hope some of you Zoella fans have stuck with us since then! You can view the original post here.
This super cute fifties design was actually commissioned by a brand. Unfortunately it never got used but we didn't mind as we still get to share it with you all here! You can view the original post here.
We were loving Barry M's Glitterati range as we headed into November and the start of the party season. The glitter toppers are so versatile you can even create freehand geometric designs without a gloop in sight! You can view the original post here.
December was so tough to choose as we created a load of fun Christmas themed nails but this cute woodland scene stands out. If we could have 10 favourites for December we would! You can view the original post here.
BANANA! January brought Minions to our nails, we just couldn't resist the craze any longer! Ok so we probably wouldn't wear this design to work but hey, it's great fun! You can view the original post here.
This year Rimmel London were involved with Red Nose Day and asked us to help them support the cause by creating a nail design. We got so excited by the idea that we did two. This is Jo's creation, Astrosnort floating around in space! You can see the original post here.
When we finally got our hands on Models Own Chrome Rose we set straight to work creating some nail art. Being March we included florals and used the rose polish for some striped accents. You can view the original post here.
Another new Models Own release, this time the Festival collection. It just seemed right to use this collection to create a bright aztec mani. What is it with aztec patterns and festivals?! You can see the original post here.
May was another great month for us with tons of awesome designs (if we do say so ourselves!) It was tough to choose a favourite but this macaron mani just scraped it. We used all of Rimmels spring pastels collection, another new release! You can view the original post here.
We did a lot of work with Beauty at Tesco over the past year and this design was commission by them to mark 'Eat Your Veggies Day'. There is a day for everything, who knew! We would probably advise eating your veggies every day though... You can view the original post here.
Barry M Speedy Nail Paints have featured heavily in our work since they were released earlier this year, it would not be a complete round up if we didn't include them! This design was inspired by Jo's ideal wedding colour scheme. You can view the original post here.
Last but not least August brought our first fun with nail stencils from Nail Mail UK. Stencils allow us to create much more precise designs such as these funky mermaid scales. We'd definitely recommend them for all ability levels! You can view the original post here.
There were so many designs we would have included in this round up but we're sure there's a size limit for posts which would have been massively exceeded!
Once again we'd like to thank you for your continued support and hope you've enjoyed what we have created for you over the past year. We look forward to the next one :)
Love & Hugs,
Emma & Jo xx

Today's design is a little bit of a fail. It's not disastrous but it didn't turn out how I wanted it to at all. I should have taken more time on it, it's my own fault for rushing! The design is inspired by my niece's cute little outfit. Baby clothes are a surprisingly great source of inspiration! Charlotte has little leggings and a matching hat with a similar pattern on.

Today I've attempted a mix and match. I usually leave these to Emma as she's much better at mixing patterns and colours than I am! I wasn't expecting this to be a mix and match but started with the little finger and it just progressed from there.

My nails do not tend to cope well on holiday and I always end up coming home with little stubs. To try to prevent damage this year I went for a shellac mani before we left. As I soaked it off (bore!) this morning it revealed longer and healthier nails than I've seen for a long while! Bar a few missing corners (collateral holiday damage) they were looking pretty good. Coincidentally a new nail varnish landed on my doorstep this morning so I thought I'd take advantage of my long(ish) nails and swatch it for you!

Animal prints and nails seem to go well together, leopard has been a long time fave of ours and I recently whipped out a simple tiger print for my Tigger mani. However, cow print wasn't one I'd tried before. It has hovered around on my to do list for a while but I kept putting it off as I wasn't sure it would work.

Ok so these nails are a little bit out there and probably not suitable for the office but I frickin' love them! They are inspired by a pair of socks on one of my new fave Instagram accounts: @shopinuinu. I love a cute pair of socks, especially when there are cats involved!
I used some trusty Barry Ms to create this look: Pure Turquoise and In A Heart Beat*. I used my black and white Barry M nail art pens to draw the cats. They didn't turn out perfect but they're pretty cute just the same.
I'm off to Germany tomorrow so my posts will be a bit thin on the ground until next week. I know Jo has a cool design lined up for you tomorrow and when she is back she will get to creating some new looks for you all (she's good like that!).

I'm amazed that we've got nearly two years in without any playing card inspired designs, well, I think we have, it's getting hard to keep track! Today's design was inspired by one nail in an Alice In Wonderland mani by @handjobsbyallison. Allison's design was crazy good and complicated so I thought I'd simplify it a little and put together something of my own.

When the lovely Kira from Cassella contacted us regarding her new nail polish brand we couldn't wait to try it. Having a little look at the website we saw several shades that we couldn't wait to try. The gorgeous Bleu You Away* was my fave from the beginning but Popsicle Bay (a candy orange) and Candyflossin' (a pretty baby pink) were real contenders.

We seem to have reignited our love for Aztec designs recently! Clearly trying to squeeze them in before summer is officially over for another year. Hopefully we've spaced them out enough for you so you're not too bored... Anyway, here's another for you!

I spoke in my last post about having a little lack of inspiration at the mo. Whenever I can't think of new designs I revisit old favourites like this stripes and roses combo. I switch things up with different colours but the jist is the same. I love the vintage vibe of little roses and always end up liking the results of these sorts of manis.

I was having a bit of a panic today as it was my last day off to try and do some designs before I go to Germany next week. It went a bit tits up if I'm honest as I got stuck reading The Girl On The Train this morning and didn't get out of bed until about 11am. It's a good book by the way; slow to start but great twist at the end. Anyway, the late start made me a bit groggy so I didn't get to doing my nails until late and I had no inspiration. Cue hours wasted on Instagram. Thankfully while searching I came across @shopinuinu which is where the inspo for this mani came from.

I'm getting ready to go on holiday which can only mean one thing, it's almost back to school time. The time of year when all the kids flock back to the UK leaving the beaches of the Med free for the rest of us to frolic! I've seen a lot of back to school designs around as American schools go back before ours, so when my sister suggested it as a design idea I wasn't too inspired. I didn't want to go for the usual - pencils, paper with A+ etc but it did remind me of a long forgotten idea to try ink splodges. Perfect!

Last week I was away in Oxford on a work trip and was so involved in my little uni bubble that I didn't really notice the shift in the weather. I just realised I always talk about the weather on here - sorry! It just affects my nail art so much that I feel the need to comment on it. Anyway, getting back to London I have noticed a real chill in the air, especially in the mornings and evenings. Ordinarily this would annoy me as we haven't had all that much of a summer but I am so excited as I LOVE autumn and this kind of sunny cold weather is my absolute favourite. So in honour of this I have revisited one of my designs from last autumn.

I've been losing faith in myself recently. I've struggled for inspiration and my designs have been a bit meh. When you get into a rut it's tough to pull yourself out so then your designs suffer and you end up in a bit of a vicious circle. Anyway, this mani has pulled me right out of it, it's my favourite for a long time. It just works and I love it!
