Diamonds and Pearls

The inspiration for today's design was the Stepford Wife in pink cashmere and pearls. Not sure that's entirely what comes across. It looks a bit trashy but I LOVE it! Despite looking quite intricate it was so easy to create and has such a high visual impact. The girliness isn't really me but this is so kitsch I can't help but want to wear it every day.

Subtle Spots

This is a recreation of a design I did for my friend Charlie a long time ago. Charlie requested pink spots of top of grey, using an old neon pink nail art pen. I wasn't convinced that the pink would show up against such a dark background but she was insistent. I remained unconvinced until the topcoat went on and everything set together perfectly. The pink didn't stand out very much but looked super cute against the dark grey and we were left with a cute and subtle mani.

Simple Barry M Aztec

I've been meaning to do this design for absolutely ages. It's one of those that looked OK on paper but every time I went to do it something seemed a bit off. Now I've actually done it I kind of see why I was reluctant as it's not the greatest. It's based on a limited edition polish from Barry M a couple of years ago. The colour is still going strong - it's not gloopy at all - but I'm not convinced it's the shade for me.

T - I - DOUBLE GER - ERR

I am a big fan of the Winnie The Pooh books and story. It's hard to pick a favourite character as they've all got something going for them, but Tigger is definitely one of the best. Tigger is such a cool kid, always happy and full of energy. I don't often attempt to recreate characters as it's really tough to get the likeness right. However, when I saw a simple Tigger design by @Nailsbypurple I had to have a go at my own version.

Strawberries and Spots

One thing I love about Instagram is finding new designs to try from the wonderful nail art community. Today's design is completely inspired by @nailsbysimonex. I fell in love when I saw it and decided that I would recreate it in pastels. We love when people are inspired by us and hope that others don't mind us trying our hand at their designs.
I used a whole heap of polishes for this, all of them from Barry M except the accent glitter which is my fave glitter: Bora Bora from Models Own. The other shades are: In A Heart Beat* (the pink), Pit Stop* (the green), Stop The Clock* (the yellow) and Cotton* (the white).

I love this design! Hopefully I did it justice.

Essence Summer Nail Art Challenge

To wrap up the summer season Essence challenged us to create the ultimate summer mani using a mix bag of their polishes and nail art tools. Essence sent us a little goodie bag and let us to the rest. I'm not sure this is my best work but it was pretty tough putting something together under pressure!

Pretty Pink Peonies

I really cannot tell you where the inspiration for this design comes from. Randomly I entered Jo & I into a competition on Instagram to win some Leighton Denny polishes and we won! Biggest shock of my week (even more so for Jo as she didn't know I'd entered). I used to adore this one shade from Leighton Denny that I got through three bottles of. I can't for the life of me remember what it was but it was similar in colour to Barry M's Pink Flamingo. Since then I haven't really tried Leighton Denny so I was keen to get stuck in and see how they fared with a bit of nail art.
One thing I really liked about the polishes that arrived were the heaviness of the bottle. This sounds weird but they just feel luxurious. I used this shade as the base: 3 Times A Lady*. It's a lovely baby pink shade that would be the perfect base for a French mani. It has a relatively thin application that builds nicely. This is three coats and it still wasn't completely opaque (hence why I think it'd be good for a French).
The peonies were created with another Leighton Denny pretty pink: Just Perfect*. I used some shades from other brands for the highlights and leaves. There were quite a lot but if you want a full list let me know in the comments.

Overall I was really pleased with the quality of the polishes and the shades are lovely. I'm sure I shall have more swatches and nail art to come with them.

True Blue Bikini Grids

There's something so satisfying about a deep rich blue teamed with a bright neon yellow. The colour combo caught my eye when I was browsing in Joy last week and I instantly thought of recreating it on my nails. The inspiration for today's design came from a cute little blue bowl with a white grid pattern and bright yellow accent around the lip.

Meow!

After having a couple of weeks of no inspiration I seem to have got my mojo back. Thank goodness. I was starting to worry that I would never have a unique idea again. Today's mani is another cat one - woohoo! I feel like I haven't done a cat design in so long. This cutie one is courtesy of some nail stickers I found floating around my nail art box of goodies. Time to put them to good use.

Dotty Trio

Today's design was one of those I started with no idea where I was going to end up. Despite a bit of a tantrum mid way through I managed to stop myself taking it off and starting again and actually ended up with something I quite like. Although I have to admit I didn't like them until I took photos and realised that as a whole they actually looked a bit better than I thought. They are definitely not my best work, but not entirely a nail fail!

Mini Matryoshka

When I was little my dad visited Russia and brought me back a set of Russian nesting (or Matryoshka) dolls. He also brought me back a porcelain mask dish which now houses some of my rings. I blame these two things on my long-standing love affair with Russia. Politics aside I find the place absolutely fascinating and it is one of my lifelong dreams to ride the Trans Siberian Express from Moscow to Beijing.

Today we have something a little different for you. We were overjoyed to be invited to be part of #1234thumbwar, a new campaign being run by Models Own. The campaign is aimed to inspire beauty fans to engage their inner artists - something we're always happy to get behind. After all, we only started this blog after being inspired by other great artists!

Little Ondine Peelable Nail Polish

A few weeks ago we received an email from Little Ondine, a new unique nail brand currently launching in the UK. The polish is branded as 'peelable (no remover needed), odourless, dries super fast and is made of natural ingredients (based on water, resin and colourants) which makes it toxin free (5 free) and completely healthy for your nails'. We were very intrigued so agreed to test it out and review for you.

Nails In Bloom

Tonight's mani was a bit rushed like most things in my life at the moment. I just don't seem to have enough hours in the day! I forgot that it was my turn to do a design but luckily I was wearing OPIs My Gondola Or Yours* at work today so quickly drew on some daisies when I got home. I knew that Jo had already done a black daisy mani here so tried to switch it up a bit by doing little daisies along my cuticle line.

Beach Huts

Last weekend we were sunning ourselves down on Hayling Island beach. As I write this it's pissing down with rain. Oh British summer time, why are you so fickle!? Anyway, all the rubbish weather this week had me dreaming of the seaside and holidays. It got me thinking about the cute little beach huts dotted along the seafront and I instantly had a new mani design!

OPI Venice 2015 Swatches

Back in June we attended the preview event for OPI's AW15 collection which we blogged about here giving you a sneaky peek at some of the shades. The shades were released on 5th August and if you haven't already picked some up in preparation for the autumn we have swatches of 12 of them for you to look at today. We'll try to keep words to a minimum as this s quite pic heavy. Enjoy!

Aztec Rainbows

I'm loving our new Nail Mail vinyls, they're so much fun to use and I've got a ton of new ideas! I'm trying to space them out so you're not inundated with vinyl designs but do expect to see more over the coming weeks. Using vinyls counts feels a tiny bit like cheating as they provide a template meaning you don't have to do as much freehand. To counter this I'm trying to make sure my designs incorporate more than just the shape of the vinyl!

Suicide Squad: Harley Quinn

In the past few weeks I've turned into a bit of a Suicide Squad obsessive. I've been watching the trailer on repeat as well as numerous reactor videos. Add this to the Batman v Superman trailer and the recent red band Deadpool one I've been in somewhat of a YouTube hole. I've always been a huge DC & Marvel fan and it looks like 2016 is going to be a good year. I can't wait.

Girly Gingham

Emma has created really cute gingham nails as part of a mix and match in the past. I was jealous so decided to give it a go! I picked out three of my favourite Barry M polishes for this girly pink design. Gingham reminds me of summer picnics in the park, perfect for this time of year!

Summer Studs

I've had a little pot of bright studs sat on my Helmer for a few months now that I haven't got around to using. I ordered them as I'd seen a mani somewhere on Pinterest that inspired me but as I couldn't find the original source I didn't want to recreate it. So I just looked longingly every now and then at the little pot wondering how best to use the studs. Cue today's summery look.

Mermaid Wedding

Today one of mine and Tom's close friends (the person who first introduced us) is getting married and I'm super excited! The bride is absolutely crazy about everything to do with the ocean, so much so she's even having a beach wedding (in the UK - very brave!) To honour the day I chose to create some mermaid style nail art with our new nail vinyls from Nail Mail. Unfortunately this design does not go with my dress so I won't be able to wear these to the actual ceremony.

Soggy Bottoms

I have been excitedly waiting for Great British Bake Off all week and last night's comeback did not disappoint! I'm already hooked and struggling to choose a favourite. I like the girls this year, some of the boys seem a little dull, but I'll give them a fair chance to impress! I won't say what happened in case you haven't watched it yet.

Inspired by: Urban Outfitters Menswear

I have a bit of a random design for you today. It came from one of my random scrolls through Instagram and a pic I came across on the Urban Outfitters feed. I think it was for a menswear feature and I just really liked the colour scheme: the turquoise with the black and white accents and the bright sunset as contrast. So pretty. Not quite sure how well it translated onto my nails but I thinks it's OK.

Life Gave Me O.P.I

Today's design is a bit of a random abstract pattern. I, like Emma, am struggling with inspiration at the moment. We're so busy that we don't have time to browse our usual inspiration sources! Anyway, you can't go wrong with O.P.I neons and a bit of striping tape...

Faded Florals

I'm not sure what it is but I've been feeling a bit uninspired recently and have been struggling to come up with designs. Hopefully my little mental block will pass soon so that I can come up with some exciting new designs for you all. I think part of the reason is that I've been so busy recently I haven't had time to look at all my usual sources of inspiration so the well has run dry! I think I need to get myself back on Pinterest pronto.

Nautical Nails with Mavala

I've been itching to get into the bag of polishes which Mavala sent us recently and I got the chance this morning. I was asked by a friend to put together a nautical design and found the perfect colour scheme in our wonderful bag of goodies!

Bleached Aztec

I was insane about the Bleached Neon collection from Maybelline last year. I would go so far as to say that they were my favourite collection of the 2014. I couldn't get enough. This year I am all about Barry M's spring Speedy collection. I have done so many designs with the range that I thought I'd go back to bleach and bring out the Maybelline's again. I love this shade but I was so disappointed with the aztec design. Prepare to see the Bleached Neons some more when I try to redeem this design!
