The Lion Sleeps Tonight

Last weekend I was very lucky to be taken to see The Lion King at the theatre by my boyfriend's parents. It was a birthday treat and, as my birthday is in January, I'd been looking forward to it for ages! I saw The Lion King when it was a relatively new show, many years ago, and it has remained one of my firm favourites ever since. The show has changed a little since then but it was just as incredible the second time around. Funnily enough I was sat in almost the same seats each time, although this time I remembered to duck when the elephants came down the aisle!

Easy Evil Eye

Last week I printed out a selection of old travel photos as I have decided that I need to actually put some pictures in albums rather than storing them on my laptop or keeping them on my phone. Some of the oldest stored pics I have come from a holiday the boyf and I took way back when to Kos. It's from those pics that I got the inspiration for today's design.

Models Own Festival Nails - Aztec Nailart

Models Own Festival Nail Polish
If you've read my Models Own Festival Nails post, where I swatched this whole collection, you'll know that I was itching to use these in some nail art. As soon as I'd finished the swatching I set to work creating a nail design. I knew I wanted some aztec/tribal influence but I couldn't decide which colour to use. In the end I used them all!

Eye Can See You 2

I'm working on a little project at the moment that has got me looking through all of our old posts and is making me want to recreate them all! Well, not all of them, some are a bit shocking, but most of them. I came across this one and knew straight away that I wanted to redo it. Not because the original was particularly bad but the picture annoys me as I whacked a hefty filter on it. Back in the old days when we used to use filters and borders and all sorts of jazz to detract from our actual designs.

Hattie Stewart Gives Me Heart Eyes

Every day now and then I get completely lost on Instagram clicking through to accounts that might interest me. Hours pass by and before I know it I'm getting a message from Jo like 'Did you just like an account called grandpaglass?!?!?' Yes Jo, I did. It's just hard because I will see some little thing that will inspire a design and I follow in the hope that more nailspo will come. We always credit when we've been inspired by something and it's just polite to follow, no? Anyway, that's how I found the inspo for today's design.

Spring Blooms with Beauty At Tesco

spring blooms nail art
Today's post is brought to you in collaboration with Beauty at Tesco and spring! The BaT team asked us to create a 'Spring Blooms' design and so we knew what we had to do - full floral, oh yes! We've created bright pink roses with grey leaves before as part of a mix and match and loved it so much we thought it was about time to do it as a full mani. Florals are perfect for spring and summer so now's the time to get practising!

You're So Cool

Alabama Worley is one of my all time favourite characters. The first time I watched True Romance I completely fell in love, not only with the story but with Alabama, played by Patricia Arquette. She's kinda cute and plays a bit ditsy but she's also one hell of a bad-ass and her outfits? Oh. Em. Gee. I wish I could pull them off! So for a while I have been wanting to create a mani inspired by her clothes and here they are. I hope I did her justice.

Now we've got you craving a Shy FX session with our title we'll move onto the nails. All this sunshine is clearly getting to us. Yesterday Emma created a super summery sweet treats mani and today I've come over all tropical!

I Want Candy

Summer is coming so naturally I am on a diet again. I say a diet but I am just trying to eat a bit healthier and take care of myself a bit more. It's just so hard when my main food-stuff is cheese. I miss pizza so much! All this healthy eating business means that all I can think of are sweet treats. Hence today's manicure.

Swatches: Binky London

Last week we received a very exciting package from Binky London! If, like us, you're a little obsessed with Made In Chelsea you'll be familiar with the gorgeous Alexandra Felstead a.k.a. Binky! Alexandra used her passion for cosmetics to set up Binky London, which includes Binky Nails - 'a sophisticated, trend led nail collection that gives incredible coverage, long lasting wear and amazing gloss'. All the Binky Nails collections have been designed by Alexandra and are produced here in the UK.

We were very keen to test it out and were kindly sent some samples; Lemon Drizzle*, Forget Me Not*, Sky Blue*, Bright Pink*, Marrakesh*, Black* and Gold Rush*.

LEMON DRIZZLE
Would you believe that this swatch is only two coats? I am impressed. Yellows are notoriously weak on coverage and this one was worrying on the first coat as it was a little watery. However, coat number two went on like a dream leaving a stunning streak free, perfectly opaque, finish! This is a fairly bright pastel shade and has enough colour density to really pop without being too garish. A definite must have for summer. This is two coats without top coat.

Stop The Clock Florals

The last post from me was florals and polka dots, clearly I have not planned well because today's is the same again, oops! The same two styles but not quite the same design, although I have used all Barry M's again. Who doesn't love florals and polka dots and Barry M spring summer polishes?!

Elegant Kitties

It feels like quite a while since I created a cat mani which is very unusual for me. When I saw this design on Kesha's Instagram I knew I was going to recreate it. I love how elegant it looks while having a fun edge. Perfect!

Do it like a nude

Do Like A Nude* is one of my favourites from from Barry M's new Sunset Nail Paint collection, so I couldn't wait to use it for some nail art. A lovely soft and pale nude it lends itself perfectly as a nail art base. I love a negative space mani but my nails are not pretty enough to be left bare. This is a great way to get a similar look while covering up all the imperfections!

Topshop Mix and Match

With the exception of the woman who tried to kill me by pushing me onto the bus yesterday (seriously lady we're all trying to get somewhere, jeez) everyone seems to be in the mood for summer which I LOVE! I am especially loving seeing all of the wonderful spring/summer manis that are cropping up giving me loads of inspiration. I am usually an autumn fan but when it comes to nail art I am a summer fiend. I adore the bright shades and, of course, the pastels.

Oh Those Summer Nights

Apparently today is going to be the hottest day of the year so far, yay summer is coming!! Unfortunately I'm stuck in the office but will be enjoying sunshine nevertheless! Especially as we have a fun summer-themed hump day design for you. After seeing Emma's Coachella nails I was inspired to put a little bit of summer on my nails too!

Emoji Nails for Beauty At Tesco

Phew! This mani was a lot harder than I anticipated. The lovely folk over at Beauty At Tesco asked us to create a few looks for them this month and as soon as I saw 'emoji' on the list I was like 'me, me me!' Poor Jo didn't even really get the option. God I wish I'd handed it over! I decided to go for emojis that I use frequently as it's be a little more personal but some of the emojis I love just do not work well on nails (dancing bunny girls I'm looking at you). The ring nail was the bain of my life in this design; I had originally settled on firm favourite heart eyes but I just could not get it right. So I had to go for the kiss blower in the end. You can see I completely effed up the eye as well! Who knew that emojis were so tricky to get right!

One of my fave posts on Hello Giggles is 13 Emojis That Don't Exist But Should as it taught me how to represent a unicorn (horse + sparkles) and also made me think of all the emojis I want. A middle finger would def be on the list.

Are you emoji fans? What emojis would you like to see in the world?

You can follow Beauty at Tesco on InstagramPinterest, and Twitter, or visit their blog here.

Hugs

Coachella Nail Art

Dahlia Nails
It's about this time each year that I wonder why I didn't save my pennies for Coachella. All the pics on Instagram are making me thoroughly jealous. I know we have some sunshine here but I would hardly call it shorts weather. All the lovely Coachella pics show all the pretty boho boys and girls in their shorts and sunnies with the odd flower in their hair enjoying the California heat. Sigh! As I can't be there I thought I'd bring the festival to my nails.

We're Off To See The Wizard

Dahlia Nails
My nail art seems to come in waves of inspiration. At the moment I am creating a lot of mix and match designs based on books, music videos, and films. You can see what I mean here and here, and no doubt there'll be a couple more over the next few weeks. I'd be very surprised if you couldn't see where the inspo for today's mani but then I forget that not everyone is as old as I am! In case you don't know they are inspired by The Wizard of Oz (film rather than book).

Essence: Pastel Ombre Top Coat

A few weeks ago a little bundle of essence goodies landed on our doorstep. I say 'ours' this package actually went to Emma's house. Emma swiftly swatched the interesting latex effect black polish but decided that the ombre required too much patience. I can't say I understand her logic, complicated mix and match mani's she's ok with, but waiting for her nails to dry between four coats of ombre polish is too much?! I was pretty pleased though as it meant I got to test out the ombre effect polish instead!

Primadonna Girl

I have a problem. I am a You Tube addict. I don't mean to be but I get completely sucked in and before I know it I've watched fifty videos and half my day has gone. This happens regularly. It happened the other day. I got stuck watching Marina and the Diamonds videos. Started with Froot ended with Primadonna via I Am Not A Robot, How To Be A Heartbreaker and several more. Thankfully something productive came out of it. I got inspiration for this mani - yay!

Gold Dipped Fingertips!

This week the boyf and I discovered the wonders of Wilko and all the joys it has to offer. Really we were in there looking for garden supplies, but I managed to sneak off to the beauty section while he wasn't looking. I found a cute little collection of nail art goodies and couldn't resist a four pack of gold and silver nail foil. A couple of quid well spent I say!

Spring Is Here

It finally feels like spring is here today. The sun is shining and it's actually warm outside! Woohoo! What better way to celebrate than with some colourful florals and polka dots? I'm sure we have done a variation on this mani about a million times but the bright Sun has put me in the mood again.

Happy Easter!

Easter Nail art
Emma created an awesome Easter mani earlier in the week for Beauty at Tesco, and a whole wheel of ideas last year. She covered most of the usual Easter themes so I thought I'd do something a little more simple to mark the day.

Fun Festival Aztec!

festival aztec nail art

I'm really sad. I spent hours creating this design and was really proud of it, and then the photos came out awfully. They were so bad that I had to redo a couple of them the next day, by which time the design wasn't looking quite as sharp. I've had to come to a compromise and show you two of the new photos along with one of the old ones. You'll just have to use your imagination and trust me that they look cooler in real life!!

Good Friday Crosses

For the first time in forever I have a whole Bank Holiday weekend off and I am loving it! Working in retail you kind of get used to working rubbish hours but now I realise what everyone looks forward to when a Bank Holiday rolls around. Four days off. Whaaaat?! So Happy Good Friday everyone! Have some little pastel crosses to enjoy!

Rimmel London vs Barry M

There have been a ton of new pastel polish releases recently, the latest is Rimmel's Sweetie Heart Matte Pastels collection. When I swatched the collection I noticed that it included a few dupes. I couldn't compare with my entire collection so decided to see how closely I could match Rimmel's new polishes with existing Barry M's. I got a fairly decent match for each shade, but two are particularly similar.

All The Bright Places

I went on a bit of a book binge the other day and bought several new additions for my extensive bookshelves. These included Eleanor&Park (which I have read and LOVED), The Spectacular Now, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, and All The Bright Places. I have just started All The Bright Places and when I saw Jo's swatches of the new Sweetie Heart collection from Rimmel they made me think of the book's cover.
