It's Fry-Yay!

It's Friday! It's Fri-Yay! Wait no, it's Fry-Yay!! What's better than Friday with the added bonus of some french fries, yum. Today we have another fun theme brought to us by the team at Beauty at Tesco, they never fail to provide us with challenging briefs!

Don't forget to check out more of our pics on the Beauty at Tesco's social media sites: InstagramPinterest, and Twitter

Happy, Friday everybody!

Summer Strawberries

At the start of summer Tom and I got quite into gardening. He decided to grow some chilli plants and we've also got some cherry tomatoes going well. At one point he expressed an interested in getting some strawberry plants, so when I saw one on offer in Ikea I grabbed it for him. The problem is, since then our lives have been a bit hectic and the garden has suffered a little from lack of TLC. Most things have managed to survive on their own, and have since been nursed back to full health but the strawberry plant unfortunately suffered beyond repair. We got a couple of strawbs off it but it's life was short lived. Today's design makes up for the lack of strawberries in the garden, and pays respect to our poor dead plant... oops!

Going Abstract With O.P.I

I must admit I didn't really know where I was going with this design. I saw something on @justagirlandhernails's Instagram where she had done a glitter fade with a stripe blocked out and sort of adapted that idea. I've been looking for new ways to use O.P.I ColorPaints so this seemed like a good chance to break them out again.

Big Fat Pandas

Do you ever think to yourself when painting a nail design 'how did this pop into my head?' That's exactly what I thought when I was doing this panda design. I genuinely have no idea how I went from 'oh it's probably time for me to do another cat design' to pandas. I'm kind of glad I did though as they are so cute and I adore this green shade from Barry M. It's just a bit random. Maybe it's my old age!

Wedding Inspired Vintage Roses

Sorry for the late post today, it's been one of those Mondays! The type that come around every week to be fair, poor Monday, it's never going to be the best day of our weeks. My design today is inspired by the event which seems to have taken over my life already, my wedding. I was determined not to get too carried away but it's just so fun planning everything. Ask me how I'm feeling about it in a year's time and you probably won't get the same answer!

Another Rainy Day In London

What is up with the weather at the moment? I can't take it. I've never seen it this insane in London. One day it's hot and sunny, the next cold and rainy. How's a girl supposed to know what to wear?! More importantly, how am I supposed to take good outdoors pics of my nails when it's raining? Honestly this weather is ruining the hopes I had of taking a gazillion pics of designs in preparation for winter. In winter there isn't enough daylight to take decent pics so I had imagined doing some winter designs now in preparation. Not gonna happen if every time I go outside I get soaked. Argh!

Summery Navy Nails

Summery nails are gorgeous, but most are pastel or neon based. If you're not a fan of bright or pale colours you can still have beautiful summery nails, just try using navy! Navy is such an underrated summer shade but I love it.

Happily Ever After with Mavala

I have to admit that we hadn't heard of Mavala until their team contacted us recently. Never ones to turn down the offer of samples we agreed to test out their products for the blog. We expected a couple of polishes to try, but received a whole bag full of goodies, off to a good start!

Bare Yourself With Rimnmel

Sooooo I went and bought new polish again after saying in my last post that I don't buy many any more. In my defence it is Rimmel's fault. They have brought out a new nude range and I am a complete sucker for nude shades. They are all over our Instagram newsfeed at the moment as well so I was really starting to feel left out! I just had to buy this (and another shade which I shall review later).

Now I didn't have too much of a choice when I went to Boots as they had sold out of most of the range and only had this and Soul Session left. Bare Yourself is probably the closest in the range to my skin but I wouldn't say it's a great match. It reminds me of those pencils when I was little called 'flesh' coloured. It veers on the side of peach which looks a little unnatural to me. Saying that, I kind of like it. Just not as a nude.
I knew I wasn't feeling this as a nude polish when I decided to jazz things up with a little nail art. If I'd been completely happy I would have just left the colour. I added some simple polka dots and some little red holo hearts that I dug out of my goodies box. It's quite cute!

Although it looks a bit dark in the bottle I actually think that Soul Session will be a better fit for me. I shall try it and let you know. Otherwise I think the whole range looks wearable for everyone. The muted tones may not necessarily suit your skin tone but I think you are bound to find something you will love.

Have you found your perfect nail match?

Peach Melba Florals

It feels like a long time since I've put together a floral mani, and who doesn't love some florals from time to time?! I found a screenshot of a really cute floral mani by @just1nail on my phone and thought I'd try out some tiny roses around the edges for a change.

Having A Field Day

I have this horrible habit of buying either polishes in threes or buying complete collections. The first - groups of three - is a bot of a weird OCD thing I guess, and the second - buying whole ranges - is just a nail polish hoarder thing which is even worse! When I saw this mini range of three polishes by Collection in Boots I had to have it. Of course!

National Ice Cream Day for Beauty At Tesco

National Ice Cream Day was earlier this week - what an awesome day! We love ice creams as much as the next person so were really pleased when Beauty at Tesco asked us to create an ice cream mani for them to celebrate!

Purple Sunset Fade

Yesterday I went to Lovebox where it was stinking hot. It was also so dusty that I had to scrub myself clean when I got home. Twice. It was gross. I'm just glad I didn't wear open-toed shoes. Those poor girls looked like they had dirty potato toes. I had a great time though. I loved watching people with their crazy outfits and Snoop Dogg was amazing even though some silly girls in front of us tried to start trouble. How can you start a fight when you're listening to Bob Marley's jammin'? Idiots.

Sarong Wrap Glitter Fade

I've been looking at Models Own - Sarong Wrap* in my drawer for a while now, wondering what I can do with it. I'm bored of just teaming a yellow base with a white design, and wanted to go for something a little more eye catching. Glitter fade is such a simple design, which we've used many times, but not one I would usually pair with a polish this bright. Something called to me when I saw these two polishes next to each other and I just knew I'd have to try it out.

OPI Coca Cola Anniversary Shades

This year sees the 100th anniversary of the Coca Cola bottle which OPI has decided to celebrate with two new colours: Centennial Celebration* and Visions of Georgia Green*. Both of the shades reflect the original slightly metallic, frosty looking bottle. The two shades are now part of the OPI Coca Cola family which covers a much larger shade-range than I expected.

Galaxy & Grids

Galaxy nails are great, but there's not a huge amount you can do with them. We've tried mixing up the colour schemes using pinks and pastels, but then I ran out of ideas. That was until I saw @ninanailedit adding geometry to galaxy and fell in love a little bit!

Festival Leopard

I'm off to Lovebox on Saturday so have been playing around with some nail art ideas to wear. Knowing myself I need to have a simple design or I will end up wearing nothing. I love a good leopard mani for these sort of occasions as they are so simple but look more intricate than a plain colour.

Love Is In The Air

Sometimes I feel the need for a really simple design. Something that doesn't scream 'I spend hours painting crazy designs on my nails' but still says 'I couldn't possibly go out without cute nails'. Wait, why have my nails suddenly started talking? Moving on... today's design was inspired by the wedding fever that's taking over my life right now. There are five weddings in my diary at the moment, and that list is always growing. The latest one to be added was my own eek!

Summer Nails with Beauty At Tesco

Yesterday's rain aside the weather in the UK has been pretty good recently which Jo and I are most definitely making the most of. We love a good beer garden in the summer(I could just be talking about me here but I'm sure Jo appreciates a little tipple in the sunshine). To celebrate the sunshine the lovely Beauty At Tesco Team asked us to create a summer themed mani which they will be sharing on their social sites today. Coming up with the design was actually harder than I thought as there are so many good summer designs around at the moment it's hard to be original.

Sweet Sunday Stripes

I'm so happy summer is here so I can legitimately use my Models Own Polish for Tans collection, it's just so pretty! Today I've used the coral from the original release, Beach Bag. It's actually brighter than it looks in the photos, definitely a neon pastel - if that makes sense? I teamed it with Models Own Coconut* which sets it off perfectly.

If You Like Pina Colada

Yesterday was national Pina Colada day so we thought today was a good day for pineapple nails! This design was completely inspired by one I saw on Instagram from @tinseltownnails. I fell in love with it straight away even though I feel myself slowly falling out of love with pineapple designs (I know, what?!). Such a good look for summer.

Rimmel Ribbons

Emma posted a cute pink design yesterday using Rimmel polishes and I've got another Rimmel mani for you today. Luckily we've managed to create totally different designs this time, after a run of very similar posts - we're seriously worried that we're becoming the same person!

Pink Summer Tartan

Last year I did a summer tartan mani and I thought I'd give it another go for this year. I went for a less bold look this year with a simple accent nail. I also went for a softer shade as I'm loving pastels for this summer. I love this pink but it has made me realise just how pink my fingers are - it kind of blends in! Not that I care too much, I'd still wear this shade daily.

Half Skittle With Studs

Emma did a skittle mani for Pride recently, using a group of polishes from Barry M's Speedy Nail Paint collection. Coincidentally I did a skittle mani using the same collection on the same day. It's weird how often this happens to us. I thought I'd wait a little while before posting my version as I'm sure you guys don't want to see us repeating ourselves!

In My Little Gold Book

Today's mani is inspired by the Kate Spade notebook where I write all of my designs and try out new things. I go the notebook at the beginning of the year when my trust Moleskine ran out and I just adore it. It's the perfect size to carry around but it has so many polish splodges in it now that it absolutely stinks so I get some funny looks when I pull it out. I love my book and the pages make me smile as some of them are so beaten up. So today I'm going to give you a little look at the planning stages of my designs. This is a photo heavy post so I'll try to keep words to a minimum.

Dreaming Of The English Riviera

Today's palm tree design, inspired by @ninanailedit, is super summery and perfect for the weather we've been having recently. I love summer nail art, you can do just about any style or colour. We've done a lot of bright or pastel nails recently but this muted nude design is just as summery and gorgeous!

Shut Up And Dance With Me!

Jo and I have been so busy for the past month or so that I relished the opportunity yesterday to kick back in the sunshine and do my nails all day. No barbeques, beer gardens, or beaches for me. It was the perfect opportunity to get back on track with my designs and actually enjoy doing them without rushing around after work trying to find a patch of sunlight.

Happy Fourth Of July

fourth of july nail art
Happy 4th July everyone!! I know this is a holiday we don't celebrate here in the UK but why does that mean we can't join in the fun? Emma did a couple of really cool 4th July nails last year (here and here) and I was a bit jealous that I'd forgotten to do my own, luckily I remembered this year. I went for an all out, bright and bold, red white and blue design. With glitter. Obvs.

Emma's Top Five Polishes For Summer

Jo and I both did top five posts for our favourite spring polishes (here and here) which I enjoyed so I thought I'd do a summer version. Although I'm still using a lot of pastel shades for my designs I do enjoy wearing brighter shades on a daily basis when the sun is shining. For this reason not many of these polishes are from brand new collections as in recent months/years I've found summer collections to be a bit toned down with some darker shades. I want full on blinding shades for this heat!

Beautiful Baby Boy & Girl

Last week I put up a quick post to announce the birth of my beautiful niece and nephew. I finally got some time and was able to create them a design of their own, although I still think that the Thing 1 and Thing 2 design is fairly apt!

Wimbledon Nail Art With Beauty At Tesco

To celebrate the start of the Wimbledon tennis championship we have teamed up with the Beauty At Tesco team to bring you this mani. Jo kind of forced me to do this design which actually worked well as it took me out of my comfort zone and provided a bit of a challenge which I love. She is actually the real tennis fan - I only really watch the Brits. Hopefully I've included some typical Wimbledon things: strawberries, tennis balls, flags, and the iconic purple and green (pastel versions obvs).

As always the Beauty at Tesco team will be sharing more pics on their social media pages today so make sure to check them out! You can follow Beauty at Tesco on InstagramPinterest, and Twitter, or visit their blog here.

Who will you be rooting for this year?
