As a girl who loves to eat you will not be surprised to hear that I loved The Very Hungry Caterpillar book as a kid. It's such a well known children's book with a character which I'm sure is recognised all over the world. It was inevitable that he'd end up on our nails at some point!
I've seen The Very Hungry Caterpillar nails around before but it was a simplified version by Ice Cream Nails that finally prompted me to give it a go. All the previous designs I'd seen had been much painted with acrylic paints and were much more elaborate - not something I could recreate with just polish. However, the simplified version was totally doable and turned out to be even easier than I expected!
I used a load of Barry M's for this as most of my bright/unusual colours are from their collections. The polishes were: Blood Orange (face), Lemon Ice Cream (eyes), Berry Ice Cream (antenna), Key Lime (body), Spring Green (body), Watermelon (body & eyes), Cotton* (background) and a black nail art pen for the mouth and feet.
The only tool I needed for this was a small nail brush, and a fair amount of patience. If you've got the time for it I promise it's a super easy design - just start with the head and add the body segments one by one. I wasn't planning the rise in his middle but just went for it. I'm so glad I did as it makes it look like he's on the move!
I'm totally in love with this design, I even went out for dinner with it on just one hand. I'm sure I looked like a nutter but I couldn't bear to part with him!
