Sweetie Heart Macaron Nails

macarons nail art
It's Thursday, we're nearly there, Friday is looming! What better way to celebrate than with some macaron nail art? We can't think of anything better, except maybe actual macarons, mmm. I got this idea while I was planning some biscuit nail art (to be revealed soon) and also a Paris mani for a friend. The two themes merged themself together in my brain and this cute macaron design was born.

I have to admit that I was dubious that I could actually pull this off and totally shocked myself with how it turned out. I had a little practice run on my pinky nail to work out the best way to layer up the colours. I settled on drawing the shapes on with a black nail art pen, filling them in with white, leaving a black outline around the edge. The I added colour to the shell part of each shape, leaving a white stripe down the middle which would eventually become the filling. Finally I used a tiny brush to add the macarons 'feet', the scalloped edging across the middle of each one. It took forever but was surprisingly easy. Good job I was in a patient mood!!

I used the entire Rimmel London Sweetie Heart matte pastels range for this design. I was looking for a bunch of pastels that would go well together so these were perfect. I'm not usually very good at colour matching so it was helpful that Rimmel has done that bit for me! The base is Cheeky Girl* and the macarons are the four remaining colours. You can see our swatches of this range here. I was tempted to add brightly coloured fillings too but the white looked so cute I didn't want to mess with it.

I'm a bit of a baking fan, which you'll know if you follow us on Instagram, and I've spent a lot of time over the past year trying to perfect the art of macaron baking. I'm not great but can produce a batch of cookies that look like they should and melt in the mouth, so I'm happy with that. I've even been asked to bake some for a friends wedding, no pressure eek! I'm most proud of the Christmas themed macaron gift boxes I made for the family last year, but you can see more of my baking experiments by following us on Instagram.
Oh gosh now I've got to the end of this post I'm starving with a hunger that will only be satisfied by macarons - argh!! Sorry if I've inflicted the same fate on you...

We'd love to know what you think of this (and all our other) designs so please leave any feedback, questions or general thoughts in the comments below.

Love,
