Splodges and Studs

I have been getting into gradients for this summer so decided to give something a bit different a go - a splodge gradient. I'm not sure of the technical term for this. It's not really a gradient at all and I guess you wouldn't really call them splodges either but it's not really a watercolour effect so I'm out of ideas! Whatever it is I love it!
I used a trio of Rimmel's for this look, all from the new Rita Ora range: Sweet Retreat*, Roll In The Grass*, and Bestival Blue*. To get the effect I splodged random blobs of the colours onto a make up sponge and rolled over a white base coat. I have learnt from my gradient experience that you really have to build up the colour to get good coverage. I could have left this alone a few steps earlier to get a slightly muted feel but the white was showing through a little too much on some of the nails so I persevered!
To add a bit of interest I used some little silver studs from Born Pretty. You'll see on quite a few places that Born Pretty send products for review. We held off accepting anything to review for a little while as it didn't quite feel right but after looking at some of the products we realised that we'd be doing a bit of a disservice if we didn't try some stuff as it is an online emporium for nail artists. They have everything on there that a nail art fan can desire! We'll definitely be revisiting off of our own back as there are so many supplies that we are interested in.

For now though I settled on these little studs. I originally got the pack for the gold ones but I thought the silver fit much better with this design. They were easy as anything to use - I just picked up with tweezers and plopped on my wet top coat.
Overall I was really pleased with this look but the clean up was a frickin' nightmare (as you can see). In future I think I might need to invest in some of that sticky, PVA type stuff that you can just peel off as this was such a difficult job!

If you head on over to Born Pretty Store and see something that tickles your fancy use this code if you want a handy 10% off: DHNW10
