Be Kind To Bees

I'm obsessed with bee patterns at the moment, and am especially loving the black and white versions with more detailed bees. I've been wanting to try a more elaborate bee design on my nails for a while, but they always seem to turn out more cutesy, and I can't resist adding yellow in! This time I went for a monochrome colour scheme and stuck to it.

The white base is Barry M - Cotton* and I used their nail art pens and small brush for the detailing. I copied the bee from Google images, it's not the most complex, but I knew I wouldn't be able to get that much detail onto my teeny tiny nails! I had to practice this little guy a few times before attempting the design on my nails, which is always a good idea.

At first I had planned to just have a single accent nail but when I took the photos it seemed like something was missing. I've tried, and failed, a honeycomb pattern before so I wasn't confident that I'd be able to pull it off. I took my time over it and managed to get sort of even hexagons so I was quite pleased with the result and it really brought the mani to life.
I've been doing quite a bit of gardening recently and it's nice to watch the bees doing their rounds collecting pollen from the flowers. I was inspired to create a little guy on my nails to remind us all that we need to do our part to protect bees in the UK - they're more important than you think! There are tons of websites around with more info but Greenpeace have a good section on it here, if you'd like know know more.

  1. I thought that bee was a sticker. It painted?! Wow, you are amazing.

    1. Thanks Elsa! It has taken us a lot of practise to get so good freehand. Hopefully we'll be even better in the years to come. E&J.xx
