Last weekend I was very lucky to be taken to see The Lion King at the theatre by my boyfriend's parents. It was a birthday treat and, as my birthday is in January, I'd been looking forward to it for ages! I saw The Lion King when it was a relatively new show, many years ago, and it has remained one of my firm favourites ever since. The show has changed a little since then but it was just as incredible the second time around. Funnily enough I was sat in almost the same seats each time, although this time I remembered to duck when the elephants came down the aisle!
Today's design is inspired by the multitude of African prints and patterns included in the costumes. There were so many different patterns I was totally mesmerised and my head was full of nail art ideas. I couldn't remember them all after the show so I had to Google the costumes and this design is a mixture of patterns from Simba's outfit and other African prints.
The colours in the show were astonishing, so much so I didn't think I could fit them all into a nail design. I don't understand how African prints can use so many bright colours and not end up looking garish, I'm yet to successfully translate this across into nail art but will keep trying! Instead of using a rainbow of shades I chose just one - Full Throttle* by Barry M. This soft orangey shade nicely encompasses the warm tones that flow through The Lion King, reflecting the desert, the lionesses, and of course Simba himself. I thought about adding more colours in the patterns but as they were so bold I decided to stick to just black to bring it all together better.
Emma is definitely better at mix and match than I am, she just makes them work so well. Mine are usually a bit odd, but I'm pleased with how this turned out as all the nails seem to compliment each other nicely *pat on back for Jo*
Have you seen The Lion King? If you haven't then I recommend it whole heartedly - you must go if you can, it's wonderful!
