Elephant Bum

The working title for this post was 'Elephant Bum' as a small favour to Emma I've decided to leave this in for the published version. Apologies for the lack of imagination!
Following on from my recent Giraffe Print mani I've stuck to the safari theme I mentioned. This time it's elephants, or rather, an elephant's bum! I was taught how to draw an elephant by my big sister, and this remains the only way I know how to represent them. It's not the most sophisicated impression of these lovely animals but I still think it's cute.

I used Rimmel polishes for this design, with the three main colours being Pillow Talk*, Moon* and Little Bo Peep. I started with two coats of Pillow Talk* and topped my ring finger with a quick coat of Seche to help it quick dry (we're pretty impatient!) I chose to only draw the elephant on one nail as I thought it would be a bit much having it on all of them. I used a nail art pen to outline the shape in black and then filled it in using a small brush and Moon* grey polish. It looked a bit flat so I added some highlighting with Little Bo Peep and then a few blades of grass with a couple of green polishes. In hindsight the design might have benefitted from something drawn on the other nails, maybe a tree?

Elephants have always been one of my favourite wild animals and I recently read a book which reignited my affection. Jodi Picoult - Leaving Time is a lovely story centred around an elephant sanctuary. Although the elephants aren't exactly the main storyline it does give you a great insight into their wonderful world.
What's you favourite wild animal?
