Nail Geek - Sophisticats

A few weeks ago the lovely people over at Makeup Revolution sent us one of their Nail Geek collections - Sophisticats (the name is not the only reason we chose this one, promise!) There are 45 polishes in the range, split into mini collections of five. The collections are grouped by colour, which I did think was a little strange as some polishes are very similar colours - there might have been a mix and match option but we couldn't spot it.

These polishes are only £1.49 each or £5.96 for a collection, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. They turned out to be a lot higher quality than I anticipated so I was pleasantly surprised! I haven't had a chance to test the durability though so will have to report back on that one.

As there were five in the collection I swatched one on each nail to show them off to you. I was sort of going for the ombre look but the metallic and shimmer polish kinda ruin that.

Thumbnail: First up is Revealing* the only true metallic in the collection. It's a gorgeous rose gold colour and applies well. The finish isn't too streaky which I usually find with metallics and I only needed two thin coats for an opaque covering.

Index finger: Next is Suave* the closest to nude for me, although it's still a few shades too dark. I really like this colour for a subtle and easy look. The polish formula is really good considering how cheap they are, it applies smoothly and leaves a nice finish.

Middle finger: Knowing Me* is only slightly darker than Suave* but has a more grey tinge to it which is cute. This one is more of a browny/grey than a nude and has the same impressive formula. Again, only two thin coats for great coverage.

Ring finger: The last of the plain colour polishes is Streetwise* which again is similar to the previous two but more of a ashy purple tone. It reminds me a little of Barry M's Vintage Violet in a good way. I'm sad that we've moved out of autumn now as this is the perfect shade.

Little finger: Finally we have Skeptical* a pale purple shimmer polish with glimpses of gold. As this is a fairly sheer polish it needed more coats to make it opaque, but you could use it as a polish topper. We seem to have reviewed a few purple shimmer polishes recently and I can confirm that they're not really for me, but pretty nonetheless.

So, in summary, I was impressed with the Nail Geek Sophisticats collection. For less than the price of a coffee you can grab one of 45 cute shades (some cuter than others, granted). I have to admit my expectations weren't high so that may help boost my opinion, but if you're looking for polish on a budget I would happily recommend Nail Geek. The colours are really pretty and, although similar, each have their own subtle twist.

If you want to get your hands on some Nail Geek polishes you can buy them online or at Superdrug.
