Summer Stripes

Summer and stripes seem to go hand in hand! Seeing so many people wearing stripes recently has inspired me to create a stripey nail design for you today.

To get sharp edges and straight lines in this design I used striping tape. I love the effect you can get with tape, but using it really is a pain in the bum! Cutting all the little bits of tape, applying them in a the right place, keeping them stuck, peeling them off without smudging and inevitably finding a rouge strand stuck to my arm 3 hours later! It's worth the effort, but only when I'm feeling patient.

I didn't want this design to look too nautical, so chose black stripes with a bright blue tip. I'm a big fan of monochrome with a splash of bold colour, especially for summer. The blue I've used here is Hudson Breeze* by NYC, another from our Coty haul! Using white underneath it brings out the lovely rich blue tones. I might start using a white base for every mani!

Are you a fan of stripes?

  1. Cute! I love the blue tips, it adds a great colour accent to each nail :) I totally get the striping tape frustrations! When I first bought it, I thought 'oh great, now every design I'll ever do with stripes will look so fabulous' but oh no you really have to learn how to use it :/ Didn't think it'd be that difficult! Luckily I'm a bit better at using striping tape now ;)

    1. Jo has actually got quite good at the striping tape. I on the other hand have absolutely no patience for it! Might have to try again if you think it gets easier :) Emma.x

  2. Hello, I’ve just discovered this blog and I love your nail art creations!

    1. Thank you Julia! We are glad to have you as a new reader. Love your nail art and swatches too. E&J.xx

  3. These look great! I agree using striping tape is annoying - I think I used it once or twice last year and haven't used it since! It takes so long and is so finicky! It is worth the effort though and the colours you've used work so well together too! :)
